Hypnotized at Heart

Big time real estate broker Catherine Turner is sent to her old hometown to secure a parcel of farmland for her company. But while she starts to reconnect with a high school crush, she also starts to realize her relationship with her fiancé might not be exactly what she thinks.

This is a very fun commission/exercise to write a Hallmark-movie-style story about hypnosis. I hope you all like it as much as I liked writing it.

Catherine Turner stared at the spreadsheet on her dual monitors, the blue light reflecting off her glasses as her fingers flew across the keyboard. At thirty-two, she was the youngest junior partner ever at Whitmore & Finley Real Estate Development, and she hadn't gotten there by sleeping in. It was 6:47 AM, and she'd already been at her desk for an hour.

"Beautiful morning, isn't it, darling?"

She didn't turn around. She knew that voice. Martin Finley III was her fiancé, her colleague, and, unbeknownst to anyone in this glass tower, including her, he was her Master.

"It is now," Catherine said, swiveling her chair to face him.

Martin closed her office door and locked it with a decisive click. It was a practiced move that he'd done so many times, and Catherine didn't even notice anymore. He was handsome: forty years old, silver threading through his dark hair at the temples, cheekbones that could cut glass. He wore a charcoal suit that probably cost more than most people's monthly rent, and when he smiled at her, Catherine felt that familiar flutter in her chest. The one that wasn't entirely natural.

"Look at me, Catherine."

She did. His eyes were such a deep brown they were almost black, and when he held her gaze, the world seemed to narrow to just the two of them.

"That's my good girl. You've been working so hard. You're feeling tired, aren't you? Your eyes are getting heavy. Just let them close for a moment."

Catherine's eyelids fluttered. She didn't know why, other than he'd suggested it. True it was early. And true she'd been working hard. But just a moment ago she'd been wide awake.

"Sleepy Cathy," Martin whispered.

The world dropped away.

When she opened her eyes again it had felt like no time had passed at all. But Martin was adjusting his tie and she was straightening her skirt. Her panties felt damp, and there was a pleasant soreness between her legs. Her heart seemed to be beating faster. That was odd, right? But in another heartbeat, the suspicions were gone. She smiled up at him, adoration flooding through her veins like a drug. Of course her heart was beating fast. Martin was here.

"I love you," she said, and meant it with every fiber of her being.

"I know you do, darling." He cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing her lower lip. "I have an assignment for you. Something important."

"Anything," Catherine breathed.

"There's a parcel of land in Pennsylvania. Two hundred acres of farmland. The firm needs to acquire it for a client. They want to build one of those AI data center there. They say its perfect for what they need, but the owner is being... difficult."

Catherine straightened, her business instincts kicking in even through the haze of devotion. "How difficult?"

"He won't sell. At any price." Martin's smile turned calculating. "But here's the thing, Catherine. The land is in a town called Heart Falls. And the owner is Jonathan Reeves."

Catherine felt something stir in her chest; a flicker of recognition, distant and warm. "Jon?"

"You know him, right?" Martin's eyes narrowed slightly. "You grew up there, didn't you? Until you were eighteen?"

"Yes," Catherine said, though the memories felt fuzzy and distant. Jon had been the object of all her school girl crushes in what felt like a previous life. "I haven't been back since I left for college."

"Perfect." Martin leaned down and kissed her forehead. "You'll go there, use your hometown connections, and get him to sell. The firm has a max of six million set aside for this acquisition. Get him to take two, and there's a promotion in it for you. Full partner."

Catherine's heart raced. The promotion was a great incentive to succeed. But her reaction was really just at the thought of making Martin proud. "I'll do it. I'll make you proud, Martin."

"Of course you will." Martin's hand moved to her hair, tightening in a grip that made her gasp. "And while you're there, remember: you love me. You want to marry me. You can't imagine your life without me. Isn't that right?"

Catherine's eyes went glassy for just a moment.

"I love you. I want to marry you. I can't imagine my life without you."

"Good girl. Your flight leaves at seven."

The rental car's GPS announced her arrival in a cheerful automated voice, but Catherine had already known. The rolling hills of central Pennsylvania, the way the late summer light filtered through the oak trees, the smell of hay and manure and fresh-cut grass... it all hit her like a physical blow, unlocking memories she'd forgotten she had.

Heart Falls. Population 3,247.

It had been home once. A long time ago.

She checked into the only hotel in town, a bed and breakfast called The Mill House that had seen better days, and spent the evening reviewing the property files. The Reeves farm had been in Jon's family for four generations. He'd inherited it five years ago when his father died, and from the looks of the financial records, he was barely scraping by. Mortgaged to the hilt, equipment aging, crops barely covering costs.

"He should be eager to sell," Catherine said aloud to herself, making notes on her tablet. "Two million would clear his debts and set him up for life. Why would he refuse?"

She fell asleep that night in the lumpy bed. Her last thoughts awake had been apprehension about seeing Jon again. But her first thoughts asleep had been of Martin's eyes and the way her heart beat between her legs when he looked into hers. The Martin in her dream held something in his hand; a jewel or a bit of metal. It shone and sparkled in the most captivating way. And she heard her voice in her head. A voice she couldn't ignore or resist. A voice she knew she'd listen to forever.

"I love you," she sleeping mouth mumbled to the empty room. "I want to marry you."

The next morning, she drove out to the Reeves farm first thing. The property was beautiful in just the way it had been described: rolling fields of corn and soybeans, a red barn that had probably stood for a century, a white farmhouse with a wraparound porch. And there, in the driveway, was a pickup truck with a man leaning against it.

Catherine's breath caught.

Jon Reeves had changed since high school, but not as much as she'd expected. He'd filled out. Broad shoulders stretching a faded flannel shirt, work-worn jeans clinging to powerful thighs. His dark hair was longer than she remembered, curling at the collar, and he had a week's worth of stubble on his jaw. He was still definitively Jon. Just... more.

More in every way imaginable.

"Cathy Turner," he said, pushing off the truck. "I heard you were back in town."

"Jon." She extended her hand, professional smile firmly in place. "It's good to see you."

He looked at her hand for a moment, then took it. His palm was calloused, warm, and the touch sent an unexpected spark up her arm. "You look different. The city suits you, I guess."

"I've done well," Catherine said, withdrawing her hand and reaching for her briefcase. "I'm here on business, actually. Whitmore and Finley..."

She let the rest go unsaid, but she didn't need to wait long for his response.

"I know why you're here." Jon's expression hardening. "I was hoping that you'd maybe just come by to say hi and have a catch up. It's been decades after all. But like I said: the city suits you, I guess. Business over everything. Your company has sent me several offers. I told them no, and I'm telling you no."

His words stung. "Jon, if you'd just hear me out."

"Come inside." He turned and walked toward the house. "I'll make us some coffee. We can talk. You can do your pitch. I'll hear you out out of respect for your trip and the fact that you're a Heart Falls girl somewhere in there. But I'm telling you now at the top that I'm not selling, Catherine. Not to you, not to anyone. So if you decide to skip the hard sell, I won't hold it against you, and we can just have our coffee like old friends."

The farmhouse kitchen made Catherine's pristine Manhattan apartment feel sterile by comparison. Checkered curtains, a table that had clearly seen thousands of family meals, the smell of bacon lingering in the air even when there wasn't any cooking. It reminded her of the house she'd grown up in.

Jon poured two mugs of coffee.

"I was sorry to hear about your dad," Jon said as he handed her one.

"Thanks," she said awkwardly, taking the cup and feeling the callouses on his hands. "Haven't been back since."

"Until today."

"Last night, actually," she said with a forced smile.

They sat across from each other, and Catherine cleared her throat.

"So," she muttered. She was better than this. She'd gotten the job she had by being better than this flustered little school girl.

"Hard sell it is, then. Go on."

She pictured Martin and her heart beat hard once in her chest. She couldn't let him down. So she launched into her pitch. The money, the economic benefits to the town, the inevitability of progress.

Jon listened without interrupting, his eyes fixed on her face in a way that made her want to squirm. Not because it was uncomfortable, but because it was attentive in a way Martin's gaze never was. Martin looked at her possessively. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing. There was something deep in her core than enjoyed the idea of being... a commodity.

"How did you meet him?" Jon asked, when she'd finished.

"Who?"

"Your fiancé. Martin Finley the Third." Jon's voice took on a mocking sing-songy voice as he said Martin's name, and he rolled his eyes a bit. "I looked him up. Old money, old connections, old everything. How did Catherine Turner from Heart Falls end up engaged to a man like that?"

Catherine opened her mouth to answer... and stopped.

How had she met Martin?

She remembered working at Whitmore & Finley. She remembered her first day, being shown to her office. And then... then she was dating him? Engaged to him? The timeline was fuzzy, indistinct. Like trying to grasp smoke. No one at home every asked. They'd been there for the whole evolution of their relationship. But here in this farmhouse, away from all her trappings, something felt... missing.

"We met at work," she said slowly. "I was a junior associate, and he was a couple levels above me, and..."

"And?"

"And I love him," Catherine said, the words coming out automatic, practiced. "I love my fiancée and would do anything for him."

Jon leaned back, his expression unreadable. "You said that like you're reading from a script."

"I don't know what you mean." Catherine sputtered slightly, taken aback by the questions and her utter inability to answer them in a satisfactory way. "Anyway, don't change the subject. I just gave you my offer and you're asking about Martin."

"I gave you my answer in the driveway, Cathy. I figured it was silly to repeat it again."

"I haven't swayed you at all?"

"Two million is a lot of money," he said with a sigh. "I won't pretend that it isn't a very attractive offer. But this farm is generations of my family. Our blood and sweat. Our bones in the plot near the forest. Mom and dad are both there now. How can I abandon them?"

Catherine understood. Suddenly and all at once, she realized that when she left Heart Falls and took up in the city, she shed something that Jon had kept. And not just kept but cultivated. She's lost her connection to her home. She knew he'd never sell.

"I understand," she said. "I know what I say next won't change your answer, but the firm is prepared to go as high as six. If it's still a no, then I understand."

"Six million." He whistled to himself then leaned in and met her eye. "Answer my question without the script and I'll think about it. What is it about Martin that makes you want to stay with him? Because he looks... awful."

Catherine felt a headache building behind her eyes. Why was she with Martin? Because he was handsome, successful, charming? Because he made her feel special, chosen? Because every time she thought about leaving, her mind went blank and she found herself thinking about how much she loved him instead?

"I love my fiancée," she repeated, and this time she heard the mechanical quality, the emptiness beneath the words. "I would do anything for him."

"Script again. Jesus, Cathy. Its easy to say, but would you really do anything?" Jon set down his coffee mug. "Would you sell out your hometown? Destroy this farm that's been in my family for generations? Is that what he'd want you to do?"

"He wants me to succeed," Catherine said, but doubt was creeping in now, cold and insidious. "He wants me to be a partner. He believes in me."

"Does he?" Jon reached across the table and took her hand. His thumb brushed over her knuckles, a gentle touch that made her shiver. "Or does he just want you to do as you're told? Cathy, you look exhausted. You look like you're carrying the weight of the world. When's the last time you slept properly? When's the last time you felt like yourself?"

Catherine wanted to pull her hand away. She should pull her hand away. But his touch was warm, grounding, and she realized with a start that she couldn't remember the last time someone had touched her without wanting something in return.

"I don't know," she whispered.

"Stay for dinner," Jon said. "There's a new bar in town. Well, not new. But new since you left. Come have a drink with me, for old times' sake. We can talk more about... everything."

Catherine should have said no. She had reports to file, calls to make, a fiancé waiting for results. But when she opened her mouth, what came out was: "Okay."

Jon bought her a drink and they found a booth in the back. The band was decent, playing covers of songs that made Catherine remember high school. The two began to reminisce, telling stories they hadn't told in years, rehashing stories that they were both characters in but could never agree on the details.

"Do you remember senior prom?" Jon asked, nursing a beer.

"I remember you taking Melissa Harper," Catherine said, surprising herself with the bitterness in her voice.

"I asked you first and you said no."

"I did?"

"You said you were going to the city for college and you didn't want any ties holding you back." Jon's eyes watched her closely. "That broke my heart a bit, Cathy. Then Melissa had a right terrible time at that prom because someone had told her that she was my second choice. She chewed me out something fierce at the end of the night."

Catherine stared at him. She didn't remember any of that. She remembered wanting to ask Jon to prom, remembered practicing in the mirror, remembered... what? Going to the dance with a group of friends? Drinking cheap wine in someone's basement?

"I don't remember saying that," she said slowly. And she started to wonder if the gaps in her memory were just from the years that had gone by or if they were something else. Being around Jon again... Or maybe more accurately being away from Martin... It was making her mind foggy and strange.

"What do you remember from when you left us all behind for big city life?"

She looked up at him, but instead of hurt, she saw a small smile. A smile she returned.

"Leaving. Going to Penn State. Working my ass off to get into Wharton." Catherine rubbed her temples. "Meeting Martin. Falling in love."

"Tell me about falling in love," Jon said quietly. "Tell me how it happened."

Catherine tried. She reached for the memory: the moment, the spark, the romance. But there was nothing there. Just a blank space where courtship should have been, filled instead with a pervasive sense of devotion that felt borrowed. Worn. Like a coat that didn't quite fit.

"I... we started dating," she said weakly. "We met at the firm and he asked me to dinner. But I turned him down. Then..."

She squeezed her eyes shut.

"I changed me mind? And we were off and running. Dating. Then living together. And then we got engaged. It all felt... natural. Inevitable."

"Bullshit."

Catherine's head snapped up. "Excuse me?"

"I said bullshit." Jon leaned forward, his voice low and intense. "When you lived here you were the so alive. Passionate, stubborn, curious. You wanted to see the world, build things, create something. And now you're telling me you found your happily ever after as a corporate lawyer's fiancée, trying to bulldoze family farms for data centers? And you can't even articulate why?"

"I love him," Catherine insisted, but the words felt hollow in her mouth. "I want to marry him."

"I'm sorry, Cath. I just don't believe you."

The headache was back, pounding behind her eyes. She felt dizzy, unmoored, like the floor was tilting beneath her feet. "I feel..." She squeezed her eyes shut again and tried to find purchase in her own mind. "You're making me feel wrong for being in love and having found a life. I came here to do a job, and now... now everything feels wrong. I feel wrong."

Jon reached out and took her hand again. His grip was firm, warm, anchoring her to the moment.

"I'm sorry." She opened her eyes again and saw regret on his face. "I've been haranguing you about changing in the city, but all those years on the farm have obviously turned me into a person who's better with animals than people. I shouldn't have pushed so hard."

Instant relief filled her. "Thank you."

"Come on," he said gently. "Let's get out of here. I'll drive you back to the hotel. It's the least I can do."

They walked out into the cool night air, the sounds of the bar fading behind them. The parking lot was nearly empty. Above them, stars spread across the sky in a way Catherine never got to see since she left. Vast and all-encompassing.

Jon unlocked the passenger side of his truck and turned to help her up. Catherine stumbled on the running board, and he caught her, his hands on her waist steadying her. They were close now, close enough that she could smell his cologne. Close enough to see the concern in his eyes, the warmth, the affection that had never fully faded.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Just tired," Catherine murmured. "Haven't been sleeping well. No offense to Heart Falls but the mattress at the motel leaves a lot to be desired."

He laughed. "Aw. Are you sleepy, Cathy?"

The world stopped.

Those words...

Are you sleepy, Cathy?

Sleepy... Cathy...

Her knees buckled, and if Jon hadn't been holding her, she would have collapsed. Her mind went white, blank, open. The headache vanished, replaced by a floating, drifting sensation that was simultaneously terrifying and familiar.

"What-," Jon sputtered as he moved to hold more of her weight as she became limp in his arm. Then she straightened up and looked at him with eyes that seemed impossibly far away.

"How may I serve you, Master?" Catherine's voice came out soft, breathy, entirely unlike the professional tone she'd used during her presentation or the familiar almost flirtatious tone she'd had when they had drinks.

This was something else.

Jon froze. "What did you call me?"

"Master." Catherine smiled, a dreamy, vacant expression that transformed her sharp features into something soft and willing.

"Cathy..." Jon's voice was hoarse. He helped her into the truck, settling her on the seat, and she went willingly, docile as a doll. "Cathy, look at me. What's happening to you?"

"I'm waiting for instructions, Master." Catherine gazed up at him, her eyes unfocused and glassy. "That's what good girls do. They listen and obey."

Jon closed his eyes, his jaw working. When he opened them again, there was determination there, and a dawning horror.

"Cathy, I'm going to ask you some questions. And you're going to tell me the truth. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Master. Good girls are always honest with their Master."

"Tell me exactly what just happened."

"I heard my trigger phrase and dropped into trance, just as I have been programmed to do."

"Was Martin the one that did this to you?"

"Yes. I love Martin. I want to marry Martin. I cannot imagine live without Martin."

And there was the script that she'd been unknowingly reading from all night. Cooked into her mind by the love of her life.

"How long has Martin been hypnotizing you?"

Catherine's brow furrowed slightly, the trance deepening as she accessed memories that had been buried, locked away behind walls of suggestion. "Since we met. My first day at the firm. He asked me on a date and I told him no. Then he showed me his pocket watch. I went under so easily. I didn't fight at all. I wanted to please him. I wanted to be good. I wanted to be a good girl for Master."

"And after that?"

"Every day. Sometimes multiple times a day. Sometimes with the watch. Mostly he would trigger me with the phrase 'Sleepy Cathy.' He said it was perfect because no one in the city calls me Cathy and no one else would ever say it like that." Catherine's voice took on a sing-song quality, reciting memories with the dreamy pleasure of the trance state. "He made me forget each session, made me think we were just dating normally. But really, he was training me. Programming me."

"Programming you to do what?"

"To love him. To obey him. To want him above all else." Catherine shifted on the seat, her thighs pressing together. "He would put me under and then fuck me. God, it was so good. Being empty, being his, feeling him use my body while my mind was floating... I lived for it. I still do. I need it, Master. I need to be empty and used."

Jon took a shaky breath. "Did he ever... did he make you do things you didn't want to do?"

"No because he made me want them, too," Catherine insisted. "He made me want everything. He made me love things I never thought I'd love. Being tied up, being spanked, being photographed, being shared."

Jon's expression grew even darker. "Shared?"

"For business deals. He would put me under and I'd be so eager, so willing. I'd do anything to make him proud. He closed several deals by promising buyers they could have me for a night. I was his perfect little fucktoy, his hypnotized slave." Catherine was breathing hard now, her cheeks flushed, her nipples visibly hardening beneath her shirt. "It felt so good to be useful. To be owned. To not think, just obey."

Jon stepped back, running a hand through his hair. "Jesus Christ. Cathy, this is... this is abuse. This is mind control. He's been raping you for years."

"No!" Catherine's voice sharpened, the first hint of resistance showing through the trance. "I wanted it. I always wanted it. I love being his plaything. I love being empty and obedient. It's the best feeling in the world."

"Because he made you love it."

"Because it's who I am," Catherine whispered. "Please, Master."

"I'm not your Master, Cathy."

"You said the words. You can feel how wet I am, can't you? You can use me. I want you to use me. I want to be your good girl."

Jon looked at her. At the beautiful woman sitting docile in his truck, her eyes glazed and willing, her body offered up without reservation. He could see the outline of her nipples through the fabric, could smell the arousal beginning to perfume the air between them. She was gorgeous, helpless, and begging for him to take her.

And he was going to say no.

"Cathy, listen to me." He cupped her face, forcing her to meet his eyes. "I'm going to wake you up now. And you're going to remember everything. Everything Martin did to you, every time he put you under, every time he used you. You're going to remember it all, clearly, and you're going to know that it was wrong. Do you understand?"

"I understand, Master."

"Remember," Jon commanded, his voice firm. "Wake up, Cathy. Remember everything. Now."

The trance broke.

Catherine gasped, her eyes snapping into focus. For a moment, she just stared at Jon, confusion warring with dawning horror on her face. And then the memories hit.

All of them.

"Oh god," she choked out. "Oh god, oh god, oh god. Jon, he... he..."

"I know." Jon climbed into the truck, pulling her into his arms as she began to sob. "I know, Cathy. I know what he did."

"Three years," Catherine wailed, her fists clenching in his shirt. "Three years of my life. He took my will, my choices, my self. He made me his puppet, his whore, his... his thing. Oh god, the things I did. The things I let him do to me."

"You were hypnotized."

She moaned and it was not from pain.

"And I liked it!" Catherine pulled back, her face streaked with tears, her eyes wild. "That's the worst part, Jon. I fucking loved it. I craved it. Even now, knowing what he did, my body is screaming for it. I want to go under. I want to be empty and used and owned." She laughed, a hysterical, broken sound. "I'm fucked up. He fucked me up so bad that I can't even be angry without being horny."

Jon held her gaze, his expression steady. "You're not fucked up, Cathy. You were conditioned. And conditioning can be undone."

"Should it?" Catherine's hands moved to his chest, her touch suddenly deliberate, purposeful. "Because right now, Jon, I am the most turned on I've ever been in my life. I remember everything he did to me, and I'm furious, and betrayed, and so fucking wet I can feel it soaking through my jeans."

"Cathy..."

"I want you to trigger me." The words came out in a rush, her eyes bright with desperate need. "I want it to be you. I want to give you what I gave him, but this time because I choose to. I want to be your plaything, Jon. I want you to fuck me like he did, but I want to know it's you while it's happening. I want to wake up in your arms instead of alone with my memories wiped."

"Cathy, you don't know what you're asking."

"I do!" She grabbed his hand, pressing it between her legs. Even through the denim, he could feel the heat, the dampness, the evidence of her arousal. "Feel that? That's for you. That's because you're good, and kind, and you see me. Martin never saw me. He just saw a toy to play with. But you..." Her voice softened, vulnerability breaking through the desperation. "You had me here - an obedient, helpless, mindless mmmmmmm fuck. You had me here at your mercy and you freed me."

She leaned up and kissed him hard.

"That deserves a reward."

Jon looked down at her, at this woman he'd loved for half his life, now offering herself up with a mixture of trauma and genuine desire that made his chest ache. He should say no. He should take her to a hospital, call a therapist, do anything but what she was asking.

But instead.

"Sleepy Cathy."

Catherine's body went rigid for a moment, then melted. Her eyes rolled back, her lips parted on a sigh, and when she looked at him again, she was gone; replaced by the docile, eager plaything that Martin had created, but now serving a different master.

"Master," she breathed, her voice thick with trance.

"Take off your clothes," Jon commanded, his voice a bit rougher than he intended as he surrendered to the situation in his own way. "All of them."

Catherine obeyed without hesitation, stripping efficiently despite her glassy-eyed state. The sweater came off, then the bra, revealing full breasts with pink, hardened nipples. The jeans and panties followed, sliding down her legs to pool on the truck floor. She sat naked in the passenger seat, legs slightly spread, hands resting palm-up on her thighs in a pose of complete submission.

"Beautiful," Jon murmured, and meant it. She was stunning sitting there. "Touch yourself. Show me how wet you are."

Catherine's hand moved between her legs in the empty parking lot, her fingers sliding through her folds with practiced ease. She was soaked, her arousal coating her thighs, and when she brought her fingers to her mouth to suck them clean, Jon felt his control slipping. "Oh, yes, Master..."

"Get in the back. On your knees. Face the window."

She moved gracefully, climbing over the seat into the truck's extended cab. It was cramped, but she positioned herself exactly as instructed. She followed instructions so well. So obediently.

Jon unzipped his jeans, freeing his cock. He was harder than he'd ever been, throbbing with need, but he forced himself to slow down. This wasn't just about his pleasure. This was about giving her what she needed, and taking what he wanted in return.

"Tell me you're mine," he commanded, positioning himself behind her.

"I'm yours, Master," Catherine moaned, her voice distant and dreamy. "Your hypnotized plaything. Your good girl. Please, use me. I need you inside me."

Jon thrust into her in one smooth motion, burying himself to the hilt. Catherine cried out, her back arching, her pussy clenching around him like a velvet vice. She was tight, hot, and so wet he could hear the slick sounds coming from below.

"Oh god," Jon groaned, his hands gripping her hips. "Cathy, you feel so fucking good."

"Don't stop," she begged, pushing back against him. "Please, don't stop. Fuck me, Master. Make me yours. Make me forget everything but your cock."

Jon began to move, setting a brutal pace that had the truck rocking on its suspension. Catherine took every thrust eagerly, her trance-deepened state making her completely uninhibited. She moaned and begged and praised him, calling him Master, telling him how good he felt, how big he was, how she never wanted to wake up from this.

"You're going to come for me," Jon commanded, reaching around to rub her clit. "Right now. On my cock. Show me how much you want to be mine."

"Yes, Master! Yes, Master!" Catherine's body convulsed, her orgasm ripping through her with shocking intensity. She screamed, her pussy clamping down on Jon's shaft, milking him desperately.

Jon couldn't hold back. He buried himself deep and came, flooding her with pulse after pulse of hot seed, marking her as his in the most primitive way possible. They collapsed together onto the bench seat, panting and sweating and trembling with aftershocks.

"Stay under," Jon whispered, stroking her hair as they caught their breath. "But listen to me. You're going to remember this. Remember how good it felt to choose. To give yourself to someone who values you. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Master," Catherine murmured, snuggling into his chest. "I understand. I choose you. I choose this."

"Good girl," Jon said, and kissed her forehead. "Now let's go home. I'm not done with you yet."

They didn't make it to the bedroom.

Jon carried her from the truck, naked, pliant, still deep in trance, straight to the living room couch. He laid her down and spent hours exploring her body, learning what made her gasp, what made her beg, what made her scream. He used his mouth on her until she was writhing, then fucked her again, slow and deep, watching her face as pleasure overwhelmed her empty mind.

He discovered that she was exquisitely sensitive to praise. Calling her a good girl made her shiver. Telling her she was beautiful, perfect, or owned made her orgasm on command. He learned that she loved being held down, being pinned, being completely at his mercy, and that she loved the aftermath just as much, when he would cradle her and whisper how well she'd done.

He wondered how many of these loves and desires were artificial and how many had existed in the Cathy he used to know. He didn't think he'd ever really be sure. But this Cathy loved them now, and for now that was enough.

They moved to the bedroom as dawn began to lighten the sky. Jon laid her on his bed and entered her again, missionary this time, so he could watch her face.

"Who do you belong to?" he asked, thrusting deep.

"You, Master. Only you."

"Who controls you?"

"You do, Master. My mind, my body, my heart. All yours."

"And when you wake up? Who will you belong to then?"

Catherine's eyes fluttered, the trance wavering for a moment as genuine emotion broke through. "You. I'll always belong to you, Jon. Even when I'm awake. Even when I'm me."

Jon kissed her then, deep and slow, and they came together, trembling and clutching each other as the sun rose over Heart Falls.

They slept until noon, tangled together in Jon's bed. When Catherine woke, it was to the smell of coffee and bacon, and the sound of Jon humming in the kitchen.

She lay there for a moment, cataloging her body. She was sore in the best way; between her legs, her thighs, her breasts where he'd sucked and bitten. She remembered everything. Every command, every orgasm, every moment of floating submission. And she didn't feel dirty, or used, or wrong.

She felt free.

She found Jon at the stove, wearing nothing but jeans, flipping pancakes with the competence of a man who cooked for himself regularly. He turned when she entered, his eyes softening as he took in her naked form.

"Morning, sleepyhead."

"Morning, Master," Catherine teased, and laughed when he blushed. "Sorry. I can call you whatever you want me to."

"Don't be." Jon pulled her into his arms, kissing her thoroughly. "I like it. But only if you do."

"I do." She pressed against him, feeling him harden against her stomach. "I want it, Jon. Not just last night... all of it. The trance, the control, the submission. But I want it with you. I want you to replace everything he put in my head with something better. Something real."

"Are you sure? It's a big responsibility. Keeping you in a trance state, programming you... it could become addictive. For both of us."

"I'm sure." Catherine looked up at him, her eyes clear and certain. "I spent three years being someone's puppet without knowing it. I want to spend the rest of my life choosing who gets that power. Reprogram me, Jon. Make me into exactly what you want. Just... keep me. Love me."

"I've loved you since I was twelve years old," Jon said quietly and he realized that it was true. That boy that had been rejected for prom was still in there, thrilled to have finally gotten the girl.

"Then show me," Catherine whispered. "Make me Sleepy Cathy. And don't ever stop."

They spent the next three days in a haze of sex and trance and whispered commands. Jon learned how to put her under with a word, a touch, a look. He learned how to layer suggestions; how to make her arousal spike when she wore certain clothes, how to make her orgasm on command, how to make her feel safe and cherished even when she was completely at his mercy.

He also learned her limits. The things Martin had done like sharing her, using her for business, wiping her memory. Those were off the table permanently. Jon would never do those things. Instead, he focused on building her up. Making her feel precious. Making her submission a gift she gave him, rather than a theft.

On the third day, he made the most important change.

"Listen to me, Cathy," he said, holding her face as she gazed up at him, deep in trance. "From now on, the words 'Sleepy Cathy' will only work when I say them. When Martin says them, or anyone else, you'll feel nothing. You'll stay completely awake, completely yourself. His control over you is broken. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Master," Catherine murmured. "Only you. Only your voice. Only your command."

"And one more thing." Jon's thumb traced her lower lip. "When you're under for me, you'll always remember. You'll know it's happening, you'll know it's me, you'll know you chose this. No more blackouts. No more missing time. Just you and me, together, even when you're deep in trance. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Master. I'll always know. I'll always remember. I'll always choose you."

"Good girl." Jon kissed her softly. "Wake up now. And remember everything."

Catherine blinked, awareness flooding back. She smiled up at him, radiant and free.

"Hi," she said.

"Hi yourself." Jon helped her sit up. "How do you feel?"

"Like myself," Catherine said, and meant it. "For the first time in years. Thank you, Jon."

"Don't thank me yet." Jon's expression turned serious. "Martin's going to come looking for you. He'll wonder why you haven't checked in, why the deal isn't done. When he finds out you've been with me..."

"Let him come," Catherine said, her eyes flashing with the steel that had made her a rising star in corporate law. "I'm ready for him."

Martin arrived four days later, pulling up to the farm in a rented BMW that looked absurdly out of place on the gravel driveway. Cathy watched from the kitchen window, her heart pounding, her hand finding Jon's automatically.

"Ready?" he asked.

"Ready." She was wearing what Jon had chosen for her: a sundress with a floral pattern, no bra, no panties. Under his programming, the feeling of the fabric against her bare skin kept her in a constant state of low-level arousal. She was calm, centered, and absolutely certain of what came next.

Martin strode up the porch steps like he owned the place. He was dressed in a suit that cost more than Jon's truck, his hair perfectly styled, his smile confident and cold. When he saw Catherine in the doorway, his calm, ever-resolute expression flickered: surprise, then anger.

"Catherine," he said. "I've been trying to reach you for days. Why haven't you returned my calls?"

"Because I didn't want to talk to you," Cathy said simply.

Martin's eyes narrowed. He stepped closer, reaching for her hand. "Darling, I'm sure this place has been... overwhelming for you. All these memories, this nostalgia. But you need to focus on the task at hand. The Reeves property. Have you made progress?"

"The Reeves property isn't for sale," Cathy said. "And I'm not your darling."

"Don't be ridiculous." Martin's grip tightened on her wrist. "We have a deal. We have plans. Now, I know you've been under a lot of stress, so I'm going to help you relax. Look at me, Catherine."

Cathy looked him in the eye.

She watched his confidence falter as she remained upright, aware, completely unaffected by his words. Beside her, Jon shifted, ready to intervene, but Cathy knew she had this well in hand.

"Sleepy Cathy," Martin commanded, desperation creeping into his voice.

Cathy smiled. "That doesn't work anymore, Martin," she said pleasantly. "I've fixed that. Actually, I've fixed quite a lot of things."

Martin's face went white. He looked from Catherine to Jon, standing protectively at her side, and understanding dawned in his eyes. "You... You remember?"

"Everything," Cathy confirmed. "Every session, every command, every time you used me like a toy and wiped my mind clean after. Every time you whored me out to close a deal like a fucking steak dinner or a super bowl ticket. I remember it all, Martin. And do you know what? I'm grateful."

"Grateful?" Martin laughed, a harsh, broken sound. "For what? For losing three years of your life?"

"For showing me what I want." Cathy stepped forward, invading his space, her voice dropping to a purr that made him flinch. "I love being in trance, Martin. I love being commanded, controlled, owned. And so I thank you for showing me that. Its something I never would have learned without you. I just don't want it from you. I want it from someone who loves me. Someone who sees me. Someone who would never take my choices away."

She gestured to the farm around them.

"I'm staying here," she said. "With Jon. I'm going to be his wife. I'm going to be his hypnotized, obedient, devoted wife. I'm going to cook his meals and tend his house and spread my legs for him whenever he snaps his fingers. And I'm going to love every fucking minute of it, because it's my choice. Because he asked, and I said yes. And because he isn't you."

"You're insane," Martin spat. "You've traded one prison for another. You're still a slave, just with a different master."

"Maybe," Cathy agreed with a shrug. "But this cage doesn't have a lock on it, so even if I live inside it for decades, I can still walk out of it anytime I choose."

Martin clenched his fist slightly and Jon stepped forward, putting a hand on the man's shoulder.

"I think it's time to go now, Martin Finley the Third."

He looked at Jon with wild, uncontrolled eyes. Then Cathy spoke again.

"You're going to leave now, and you're never going to contact me again. Because if you do, I'll tell everyone what you did. I'll tell the firm, the bar association, the police."

"No one would believe..." he sputtered.

"Oh I won't mention the pocket watch or the triggers. I'll just tell them about the lack of consent and the way I was treated like an object and a bargaining chip. I'll make sure everyone knows you're a predator, and I'll watch from here as your life burns around you. I don't know if any charges would stick. But that pristine reputation you've cultivated..."

She whistled and spun her finger in a downward spiral toward the ground before making a crashing sound.

Martin stared at her, really looked at her, and saw the truth of her words. She wasn't his docile Catherine anymore. She was someone new. Someone dangerous.

"You'll regret this," he said quietly. "You could have been a partner. You could have had everything."

"I promise I won't. I have everything I need," Catherine said. "I have love. I have purpose. Now get off our property before I call the sheriff. And tell the partners that the farm isn't for sale for any amount."

Martin looked at Jon one last time, something like hatred burning in his eyes. Then he turned and walked back to his car, his shoulders slumped, his perfect suit suddenly looking like a costume. They watched him drive away, the BMW kicking up dust on the country road until it vanished over the hill.

"Make me Sleepy Cathy," she finally said as they went back inside. "Make me forget about all of this."

Jon raised an eyebrow.

"Just for a little while. Just until dinner."

He smiled down at her, love and desire and infinite tenderness in his eyes.

"Sleepy Cathy," he said.

She was home.

Six months later, the farmhouse had a new coat of paint, a new roof, and a new mistress.

Cathy stood in the kitchen wearing her polka-dot apron, tied tight around her waist, with absolutely nothing underneath. Her breasts swung free as she moved, her pussy bare and often wet, accessible to her husband at any moment.

She hummed as she cooked, a domestic sound that would have horrified her former self. But her former self had been a construct, a puppet dancing on Martin's strings.

The back door opened, and Jon stepped in from the fields. He was dirty, sweaty, smelling of honest work, and Cathy felt her arousal spike immediately. He'd programmed that into her; the scent of his labor making her ready for him, always eager, always willing.

"There's my good girl," he said, crossing the kitchen to pull her into his arms. His hands slid under the apron, finding her naked ass, squeezing possessively. "How long have you been awake?"

"An hour, Master," Cathy breathed, melting into his touch. "I made breakfast, did the laundry, fed the chickens..."

"And you stayed awake for all of it?"

"Yes, Master. I'm getting better at it. I like being awake for you too. I like being... all of me."

Jon kissed her, deep and slow, his hands roaming her body. "I love all of you," he murmured against her lips.

"Show me," Cathy whispered.

"Sleepy Cathy," Jon commanded.

Cathy's eyes rolled back, her body going pliant in his arms. The apron suddenly felt more real, more right: the symbol of her submission, her choice, her love.

"On your knees," Jon said, unzipping his jeans. "Show me how much you love your life."

Cathy sank to the kitchen floor, smiling, eager, and took him into her mouth. As she worked, as she served, as she gave herself completely to the man who had saved her, she felt nothing but gratitude.

Martin had made her a slave.

Jon had made her free.

And Sleepy Cathy - obedient, devoted, hypnotized, sleepy Cathy, had never been happier in her life.
